Edison International Egypt- Branch the Edison Group is involved in the exploration and production of natural gas and crude oil, holding 46 exploitation concessions and 27 exploration permits. It also holds two licenses for natural gas storage. Outside Italy, Edison International is involved in exploration and production in Egypt and the British sector of the North Sea, and holds exploration permits in Iran, Croatia and Algeria. In 2003, by successfully bidding in international calls for tenders, Edison was awarded two new exploration blocks in Algeria and Egypt. Edison owns oil and gas reserves both in Italy and abroad. In 2003, the Group produced 1,512 million cubic meters of natural gas (1,137 million cubic meters in Italy) and 2.5 million barrels of oil.Edison is also active in importing and distributing natural gas, which it purchases from foreign suppliers under both spot and long-term contracts. In Italy, the Edison Group sells natural gas to residential customers, industrial users, thermoelectric power plants and distributors, using both its own logistics infrastructure and third-party transmission agreements.

The Suez Canal Container Terminal (SCCT), located in Port Said, Egypt at the mouth of the Suez Canal on the Mediterranean Sea, is a major transshipment hub for the Eastern Mediterranean region and gateway port for local Egyptian cargoes. With the completion of a dredging project which deepened the terminal’s draft from 13.9 to 14.5 meters, and the expected complement of 24 super-post Panamax cranes at the conclusion of the Phase II expansion now underway, SCCT is capable of handling the largest containerships in the global container fleet. Scheduled to be operational in 2012, Phase II will increase annual capacity at SCCT to 5.4 million TEUs, making it the largest container terminal on the Mediterranean Sea.
SCCT opened in 2004 as a Joint Venture with APM Terminals the majority shareholder and operator.
