Manage the Research, Analysis & Evaluation Unit of the Criminal Justice Policy and Planning Division. Direct staff in response to the information needs of the Undersecretary, Governor, Legislature, State and public by providing comprehensive, accurate and timely research, data and technical assistance. Policy planning involves the application of research and analytical methods, the results of which are used in policymaking in several ways: ► To promote the mission of the Division by conducting in-depth analyzes of issues that span the adult criminal justice system and juvenile justice system, determining the system's long-range needs and recommending policy priorities and advising and assisting the Governor and the General Assembly in developing plans, policies, programs, and legislation that is data-driven to improve the system's effectiveness. ► To monitor key monthly indicators in an effort to identify emerging issues for policymakers to improve the criminal justice system. ► To conduct research, analysis & evaluation in response to a specific question or to determine the effect and cost of a proposed policy under consideration. ► To support a legislative committee or special task force convened to study a broad policy area. Examples of this type of effort are the Sentencing Task Force and the Criminal Justice Policy Advisory Committee. Successfully improved the process for the recruitment and hiring of professional staff for the new Criminal Justice Policy and Planning Division (CJPPD). Directs and coordinates staff in the research, develop, analyze and evaluate criminal justice planning and policy alternatives, to assist the General Assembly in developing plans, programs and proposed legislation for improving the effectiveness of the criminal justice in Connecticut. Coordinate collaborative work teams to develop population forecasts and to support policy options to reduce prison and jail overcrowding and overall cost effectiveness.
