Konkola Copper Mines May 2011 to date
Iam working with Konkola Copper Mines PLC (KCM) Nkana IBU-refinery in the main tank house as a Metallurgist. The following are my daily; Direct and or coordinate/troubleshooting in order to solve technical and operational problems affecting the plant processes in the main tankhouse. This includes the following: 1. Copper starter sheets production in the main Tankhouse and the parameters involved in the efficient production of the same i.e. copper tenors, acid tenors and impurities control in the copper sulphate electrolyte.
2. Tank loading- copper cathodes production and the various parameters involved to economically produce the up to standards copper cathodes according to the BSI ISO 9001 Quality management system.
3. Commercial copper growth inspection.
4. Slimes treatment: Which involves the actual treatment of the precious metals which is discharged from the copper sulphate electrolyte as impurities.
5. Production of copper anodes from the smelter though still learning on the same. Control discipline and safety standards to ensure that operations are conducted efficiently and effectively in accordance with domestic and mine safety and environmental regulations. Plan and direct all metallurgical test works to enhance plant recovery and final product quality i.e. starter sheets and copper cathodes. Monitor and review the stock levels and consumption rates of consumables in order to sustain plant operations and minimize operation costs. Direct, motivate and develop subordinates personnel to increase their efficiency and ensure that future departmental staff requirements are met. Liaise effectively with the supply department and other service departments to ensure a no stock out position for consumables.

January 2010 – April 2010 Worked on industrial attachment with the Environmental Council of Zambia.
Key responsibilities include: • Conducting Site verification inspections on newly proposed projects such as mines, factories, electrification projects etc.
• Licensing inspections and preparation of such licenses as licenses to transport and store chemicals, to generate and transport waste etc.
• Reviewing of Environmental Project Briefs (EPBs) and preparation of profiles.
• Conducting and preparation of environmental compliance monitoring reports. An added advantage that this attachment has provided me with is exposure to the laws that govern Zambia as far as environmental and public issues are concerned and also exposure to the operations of various industries (Chemical processing, Petroleum, Mining, Pharmaceutical and diverse manufacturing small and large scale industries).
